Blogger Book Fair Day 4: Goodbye Nothing by Beck Sherman

Day 4 of the Blogger Book Fair I’m happy to bring you an excerpt from Goodbye Nothing by Beck Sherman. Be sure and follow her link over to her blog to check out the reveal of her cover!

Goodbye Nothing Pre-Release Excerpt:

The fortune teller directed them to two folding chairs by a small table with nothing

on top of it. When they all were seated, Ren got a closer look at the woman. Her face

was smooth, but her eyes were old, and when she finally spoke her voice was old too.

He expected her to have an Eastern European accent but out came the thickest Boston

accent he had ever heard. She must be from the gypsy clan out of Dorchester, Ren thought

“My name is Wanderlight,” the fortune teller said.

“Laser Beam,” Ren said, extending his hand. “Nice to meet you.”

“Ren,” Joey said.

Wanderlight did not take his hand and he took it away.

“It’s forty dollars for a palm reading. Will that be cash, check, or charge?”

“Can we pay in crystals?”

“Cash, then. And it’s only the lady tonight. I already know my future and it’s

stunning. Amazing, really.”

Joey squeezed Ren’s hand. He didn’t usually pick on the elderly, but he believed

anyone who took money for this type of thing was a con artist. Joey started for her purse.

Ren stopped her and pulled out his wallet. He took two twenties from it and gave them to

Wanderlight. As went most transactions for devious deeds, the money was already tucked

neatly away before Ren noticed his hand empty.

“You are blind,” Wanderlight began. Ren shifted noisily in his seat. Joey patted his

leg. “Give me your right palm.”

Joey gave her hand to the woman.

“I see big things in your future. You are going away soon?”

“Yes,” Joey answered.

“Ah, that’s good. You’re young.”

Ren rolled his eyes. He wasn’t sure how much he could take.

“You study, yes? Art?”

“Photography.” The fortune teller gave Joey a look at that, like the con artist had the

thought she was the one being conned.

“You have not been blind forever, only since two years.”

“Oh my God, yes.”

Ren leaned into her, “She’s just telling you things you already know.”

Joey whispered back, “She’s proving herself…then comes the interesting stuff.”

Wanderlight was staring at them. “May I continue?”

They both nodded.

“You steal.”

“I do what?” Joey asked.

“You are a thief.”

Ren laughed. The woman couldn’t have pegged Joey more wrong. His best friend

wouldn’t even take a penny from the “Take a penny, leave a penny” tray at convenient

“You steal,” Wanderlight repeated, with more determination this time.

“No ─ I’ve never stolen anything. I’m not sure I could…now…but even when I was

sighted…oh wait. I did take some candy once without paying when I was six or seven. Is

that what you mean?”

“From Conrad’s Confectionary?” Ren asked.

“Yes. Two Swedish fish.”

“I can’t believe it took Wanderstars here for this to come out. What other dirty secrets

are you hiding?” Joey giggled.

“I am not talking about candy fish,” Wanderlight said, raising her voice. “What you

have stolen you do not know about. It is not an object that can be seen or touched or

eaten.” She said the last word as if she had indeed eaten it and it was very, very sour.

“But it has had great consequence, this taking, for you and the other.” Ren and Joey were

quiet. Fairgoers passed by outside. A balloon popped somewhere faraway. The fortune

teller moved her face, so it was almost touching Joey’s hand. Her eyebrows rose.

“What else?” Joey asked.

“You will get a B-plus in French Literature.” Wanderlight released Joey’s hand and

stood. “We’re done.”

“What?” Ren asked.

“I must go. This is not good energy. I like good energy.” Flame tips followed the

woman as she shuffled out of the tent.

“Um, bye,” Ren said.

Jet Banner

Today Jay Crownover makes a stop by my blog to bring us Jet. There’s also a giveaway! She’s also shared some things about a few of her characters with us. I hope you enjoy!

With his tight leather pants and a sharp edge that makes him dangerous, Jet Keller is every girl’s rock and roll fantasy. But Ayden Cross is done walking on the wild side with bad boys. She doesn’t want to give in to the heat she sees in Jet’s dark, haunted eyes. She’s afraid of getting burned from the sparks of their spontaneous combustion, even as his touch sets her on fire.

Jet can’t resist the Southern Belle with mile-long legs in cowboy boots who defies his every expectation. Yet the closer he feels to Ayden, the less he seems to know her. While he’s tempted to get under her skin and undo her in every way, he knows firsthand what happens to two people with very different ideas about relationships.

Will the blaze burn into an enduring love. . . or will it consume their dreams and turn them to ashes?

Review: Sex Slave by Natalie Acres ***18+ Erotica***

Natalie Acres is touring her latest Erotic novel Sex Slave, Cowboy Sex 7 and I’ll be one of the first to tell you it is H O T!

Unveiling secrets about Kimberly’s past, Wyatt Clanton and Sebastian Ketchum purchase Kimberly’s time at a lifestyle benefit auction and prepare a rigorous submissive training program, one destined for an unwelcomed interruption.

During their travels, Wyatt and Sebastian learn Kimberly not only wants to serve and please, but she is also interested in extreme BDSM. As she escapes a man who nearly ruined her, Kimberly surrenders free will by placing her faith and trust in the two men who have waited years to love her.

Move over Christian Grey. If you thought Fifty Shades was hot, wait until you read this! This book had the definite jaw dropping WOW factor. There are no secrets when it comes to sex here. Aside from the great sex, there is a good storyline. Warning, though, there is some serious BDSM to be read. The characters all go well together. I couldn’t put this book down. It’s a modern day erotic romance with a classic ‘rescue the damsel’ twist. Acres really knows how to keep you interested with her fin attention to detail. I definitely recommend reading this book!

Natalie Acres has been a fan of western fiction for most of her life. Born and raised in the south, Natalie spent most of her life on a large ranch. When she discovered romance fans wanted western erotic romances, she sat down at her computer and hasn’t moved since, except on rare occasions.

The best selling author of Cowboy Boots and Untamed Hearts and Sex Party, Natalie writes western ménage romances and romantic suspense. In her spare time, she reads anything she can find on the historical towns of the Old West and she believes when writing romance, “A man’s kiss is his signature” (Mae West quote).

Cover Reveal: Playing for Keeps by Emma Hart (@EmmaHartAuthor)

Thanks for stopping by today! Emma Hart is getting ready to bring us her second book in her great The Game series, Playing for Keeps. She’s also be gracious enough to give us a little taste with an excerpt. I hope you enjoy!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Emma Hart, comes the second book in The Game series, and the story everyone wanted after The Love Game…

She’s in love with him.
He’s trying not to love her.
One night changes everything.

Aston Banks never meant to get close to Megan Harper – not even for that one night. Haunted by a childhood he refuses to face, he knew she could break through every wall he’d ever built and tear them down without even realising she was doing it.

Betraying Braden by starting a relationship with Aston wasn’t on Megan’s to-do list, but the second she sees a glimpse of someone other than the arrogant ass she’s come to know, she can’t walk away.

EXCERPT:  Disclaimer: This is from the unedited version of the book, and is therefore subject to change or removal before publication.

“If you’re trying to hide, babe, then you’re failing. I can see you.” Aston’s words crawl over me in a smooth caress, making my throat dry up and my blood boil simultaneously.

“Why would I be hiding?” I sit up and look forward, determined not to meet his eyes.

He shrugs a shoulder carelessly, twirling a pen between his fingers. I catch his every movement from the corner of my eye. His eyes are burning into the side of my head – they’re begging me to turn, begging me to look.

“Because you want me so badly you can’t bear to see me,” he says in a dramatic tone with a touch of arrogance.

My back straightens. “Clearly someone has been feeding your ego again,” I reply dryly. “Because I don’t remember ever telling you I want you.”

His bicep brushes mine as he leans forward. “Is that so?” he asks, his voice low and barely perceptible.

I fight the urge to drop my eyes to the desk. “Damn right it is.”

A fingertip trails down the back of my arm, the tingling feeling making me fight against a shiver.

“I think you’re wrong,” he whispers. “Because I’m pretty sure you said you wanted me on Saturday night – right before you dug those nails of yours into my back and wrapped your pretty little legs around my waist.”

My head snaps round to him, and our faces are inches apart. His lips are curled in a slightly smug smile, and I hate the fact that’s where my eyes fell first. I drag them away from his mouth and across the sharp planes of his face until they meet his smoky eyes.

I remember why I didn’t want to look at him. His eyes have the power to entrance me and to break me. Right now it’s the former – the silvery hint at the edge of his iris pulling me in and holding me captive. I remember why, from the first touch of his lips against mine on Saturday night, nothing could have stopped us happening.

Aston’s childhood is worse than Megan ever guessed, but as he tries and fails to push her away, it’s clear her love is stronger than the demons that cling to him every day. And now, because of it, he finally has to deal with what he’s buried deep down.

What he doesn’t want to face. What he’s fought against for so long.

And they have to do it all without Braden finding out.

Keeping a relationship secret has never been harder.

**This book can be read as a standalone novel, but reading The Love Game (The Game, #1) beforehand is advised.)

By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to a terrible two year old and growing bump, due September 2013. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of juice and writes books.

A Killer’s Field~ Review & Giveaway!

Susan Elizabeth Alvis stops by my blog today to introduce us to her latest novella, A Killer’s Field.  I’ll be posting a review as well as provide you all with a link to win your own copy.

The Texas Killing Fields is not exactly Kristen McMurray’s idea of a romantic evening. Her boyfriend decides to take her there for Halloween. She is far from being happy about going to the killing fields and walking on the grounds known to hold the deadliest secrets.

Idealizing a moonlit sky over them and a murderer hiding in the shadows, has Kristen believing her boyfriend has lost his ever lovin’ mind. Worse yet, maybe he’s a raving maniac waiting to come forth.

Against her better judgement, she agrees to go to the fields. Unknown to her, they enter into a huge Halloween hunt. This was an organized event and an obvious trap used to lure victims to where dozens of bodies have been dumped.

One brush with death leads to another, but Kristen keeps her wits as her boyfriend turned Halloween night into an unforgettable night. Kristen faces the horrors of the past. She soon finds out that she has an inner strength, a will to survive, and the desire to live.- via Goodreads

This short novella is based on the true story of the I-45 murders along a stretch of Texas highway between Houston and Galveston. While the actual murders didn’t take place there, it has been a notorious dumping ground since the early 70’s.

Denny thought it would be a great ‘lover’s retreat’ to go visit the killing fields of Texas. Kristen is not so hot on the idea, but goes anyway. This turns out to be the worst trip of her life. I love the story behind this. I’m the type of person who would jump at the chance to go digging for details on murders, but not on Halloween. While it’s not a true story, it’s definitely plausible for a copycat. I could see this having been a longer, more drawn out story and full length novel with the great characters and storyline. If you’re looking for a quick read, go pick this book up!
